No Marketing Budget? No Problems

Marketing budgets are always the first to be cut. So for all the venue marketeers and owners who need to market their venue with zero budget, this post is for you.

Below we’ll run through the three free marketing activities that you should be focusing on to bring in bookings.

Affiliate & Influencers

If you don’t have the cash to generate your own website traffic, the best alternative is leveraging someone else’s.

The two best ways of doing this are: affiliate and influencers.

Affiliates are other commercial entities, commonly websites and influencer’s are individuals and their social profiles.

The best affiliate sites for attraction venues are family entertainment directories:

Whilst there are often paid tiers for creating your venue’s listing, the majority offer free profiles. Here’s a list of our favourite affiliate partners:

Remember, if the affiliate listing links directly to your site, you can track the website traffic using UTMs and Google Analytics

For influencers, there’s a less formal process. Whilst many paid influencer platforms exist, they’re unnecessary for most attractions.

You’re better off directly approaching influencers. Instead of paying a fee for posts and content, you can offer a free visit to your venue. Influencers with 5000-100,000 followers respond best to the direct approach.

The best thing? Once you’ve established an influencer relationship, you can leverage it for future events or marketing campaigns.

Organic Social

Organic social is simply posting on social media platforms like Instagram, but not using the paid functions like boosting posts or ads. The vast majority of venues are already posting on social platforms.

But many venues don’t get it completely right. Normally, venues pick two platforms, commonly instagram and facebook, then repetitively post three times a week. They don’t focus on the two key metrics: audience engagement and growth.

If this sounds like your venue, follow these four steps to improve your organic social performance:

  1. Reduce your posting frequency and focus on higher quality posts.
  2. Engage with and grow your audience by liking, commenting and following relevant profiles daily.
  3. Expand your horizons by experimenting with new platforms. TikTok is working well for attractions.
  4. Involve staff in the content creation process. Give them the time, space and trust to be a part of the process. This is particularly effective for TiKTok.

Social media is a dynamic and evolving industry. What works today may not work tomorrow. What worked in 2017, certainly doesn’t work now. Make sure you’re maximising the value of your social channels by innovating where you can.

3. Seo

It’s not quick, sexy or exciting, but it’s one of the most valuable marketing activities out there. SEO, or search engine optimisation, is the process of making your site more visible on platforms like Google and Bing. The more visible your website, the more visitors and purchases you’ll get.

It takes time to build, but SEO is also a vital marketing tool for building competitive advantage. If you consistently rank highly for high value terms like ‘bowling in basingstoke’ or ‘trampoline park in essex’ then you’re already 3 steps ahead of the competition.

Get started by following these 4 steps:

  1. Use Google’s Keyword Planner to see what relevant search terms get the highest volume of traffic.
  2. Pick 2-3 of the most relevant keywords and insert them into your existing website copy, title tags and meta descriptions.
  3. Make sure your website is mobile friendly. 70%+ of your customers will access your site via their phones.
  4. Build and submit your site plan to Google so it understands the structure and can effectively index it. Submit your site plan here

SEO is gruelling and requires a lot of consistency. But if you get it right, it will pay dividends for years to come.
